Killing Eve Finale Explained : Why did Carolyn kill Villanelle ?

The series finale was definitely a shock to the fans. Throughout the entire series fans had waited and hoped that Villanelle and Eve would somehow end up together. Although Season 4 did have us overjoyed when they did express their love for each other, the ending had us in tears. Villanelle gets shot at the end of the last episode after she had successfully taken down the Twelve. Carolyn had ordered to kill Villanelle but why?

Although the season began with Eve, Villanelle and Carolyn having similar plans to take down The Twelve, Carolyn also saw this as an opportunity to take down Eve and Villanelle as her way back into the MI6. Carolyn was disavowed as a traitor by MI6 and this act was her way back in. The finale did match upto the series name "Killing Eve" where Eve was slowly killed through the episodes with everyone she cares about being taken from her. Killing Eve might return one day with a reboot or spinoff and possibly by some miracle Villanelle could still be alive but until then it was great following Eve and Villanelle in their journey of discovering themselves and finding each other.
